More Loft, More Fun

by: Joe Buttitta Technology has really helped the modern golfer. Not only do today's golf balls go further, but today's clubs are more forgiving than ever. Bottom line: manufacturers are trying to make golf more fun. If they don't, more and more people will leave the game because of its difficulty. That is why you see fewer and fewer long-irons being included in set of irons these days. Long irons (1, 2, 3, 4 irons) are among the most difficult clubs to hit and control. Personally, I think that if your handicap is not 15 or below, the best place for your long irons is in your deepest, darkest closet, certainly not your golf bag. My philosophy is More Loft, More Fun!! Available to golfers today are 11, 9, 7, and 5-woods, great replacements for the difficult long irons. Each wood has more loft and more mass in the clubhead than the long irons and are therefore easier to hit. The same idea can be applied to driver vs. 3-wood. If you are having trouble controlling your driver (7, 8, 9, 10, 11 degrees), you ought to give the 3-wood a fair chance. Clubface lofts on 3-woods vary from 13-16 degrees, making that club easier to hit. In fact, experience tells us that your 3-wood may go farther than your driver, simply because you can usually make more solid contact with the more lofted club. So, to enjoy golf to the fullest remember: More Loft, More Fun!! |
